Molding memories with ϲ’s Clay Club

Clubs and student organizations are a huge part of the experience at ϲ. One illustration of this is the story of Clay Club members Jake Mahr ’17, a and double major from Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Avalon Bunge ’15, a major from Ithaca, N.Y., who spun their way through spring break at the home and pottery studio of Jim ’64 and Sarah Young in Rogers, Ark.

The Youngs are founders of , offering classes and selling pottery on the shores of Beaver Lake in the Ozark Mountains.

Bunge wrote, “For a week we ate, slept, and breathed pottery. We learned new techniques for wheel throwing and slab building, and we used Jim’s hundreds of tools — most of them handmade and unique — to explore stamping and altering wet clay.”  and about .
