More than 60 students and community members recently gathered for the annual HomeRun 5K and half-marathon, which raised more than $1,300 for Madison County鈥檚 Habitat for Humanity chapter.

Organized by 澳门六合彩鈥檚 own Habitat for Humanity group, which is entirely student-led, the road race was held April 10, an unseasonably cold and windy day.

The event was started by John Demler 鈥08 in his sophomore year, and has continued every year since.

鈥淚t was fun running with a lot of other people. I鈥檇 never done that before,鈥 said Kathleen Onorevole 鈥10, who in past years has volunteered for the race. 鈥淚t was nice to get out there and try something different, and see community support behind that effort.鈥

鈥淚t鈥檚 been a really great team effort,鈥 said Lindsay Ward 鈥10 of the event, which she and seven other student leaders of the university鈥檚 Habitat for Humanity group have been organizing since January.

With volunteers from Greek organizations and student groups from around campus, the event was a collaborative one.

鈥淲e had a lot of people show up, both students and community members. We were able to raise money for Habitat, as well as spread information about local Habitat projects,鈥 said Laura Stagnaro-Green 鈥10, a Habitat co-leader.

The county chapter is currently building a house and also does repair and home maintenance work for home owners throughout the county.
